I lift my eyes up to the mountains
Where does my help come from
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, creator of the earth
I lift my eyes up to the mountains
Where does my help come from
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven, creator of the earth

Oh how I need You Lord
You are my only hope
You're my only prayer
So I will wait for You
To come and rescue me
Come and give me life

The Story Behind The Song

This is one of the first worship songs I wrote. I always picture David, the shepherd king, singing the original version passionately in the hills around Jerusalem. Won't it be great to actually hear David sing us some of the original melodies of his songs in Heaven? One of the many things I love about David was that his songs were 'earthed'; he didn't seem afraid to let his human side show in worship, and yet was sure of His faith in the God he could not see, yet still trusted. The Psalms have always given me courage to do the same in the unique way that I do as a worship songwriter. As we express our worship today, I think it's important to keep 'praying for the peace of Jerusalem.'
